Why I Work at Intandem

Kyleigh Bacher – Nurse Clinical Coordinator

For as long as I can remember, I have had a deep passion for helping others. Throughout middle and high school, I formed close friendships with peers who had various developmental disabilities. I always viewed these friends as truly remarkable, each offering a unique and meaningful perspective on the world. As I witnessed the ways they were sometimes treated differently — often in negative ways — I felt inspired to learn how I could better support them and advocate for their voices to be heard and their light to shine.

This passion led me to begin attending seminars focused on developmental disability advocacy early in high school, a journey of learning and advocacy that continued well into my college years and helped with my previous employment in the long-term care setting. I was introduced to Intandem through a close relative who worked for the agency, and I was immediately drawn to its mission of people, purpose, and progress. Shortly after graduating from nursing school, I applied for a Registered Nurse position at Intandem in 2021 and was thrilled to be given the opportunity to join the team. From early in my career at Intandem, I found great joy in getting to know the people we support. I have developed close, meaningful relationships, and many of the individuals we serve now hold a special place in my heart as family.

I come to work each day feeling happy, excited, and fulfilled, knowing that I am here to provide love, support, and encouragement — helping individuals live their best lives with joy and purpose. It is especially meaningful to me that my husband also works for the agency and shares the same passion and dedication to the people we support. We both see Intandem as our professional home and an extension of our family, and we envision ourselves retiring from here. My heart is here, and I simply cannot imagine working anywhere else.
