J.D. Kamery works for Intandem because the mission and the people have always meant a great deal to him. Long before joining the organization, he was familiar with Intandem through community connections, including playing softball at Marcus Park and having family and friends who worked for the agency. In particular, his aunt’s 35-year career with the organization inspired his interest in eventually joining the team himself. Being able to work for a place that has been connected to his life for so long has made his experience especially meaningful.
As Production and Fulfillment Manager at Intandem Solutions, J.D. says one of the things he appreciates most is the people. He enjoys working alongside staff from many different departments and values the strong sense of cooperation across the organization. No matter the role or department, he believes everyone is working toward the same goal and that teamwork truly sets Intandem apart.
J.D. also finds working with individuals with physical and mental disabilities to be incredibly rewarding. He describes the people served by Intandem as some of the best coworkers anyone could ask for, thanks to the positivity, energy, and enthusiasm they bring every day. Their willingness to help and the joy they bring to the workplace have had a lasting impact on him.
His connection to this work also began at an early age. After losing his mother, Barbara, to cancer when he was nine years old, J.D. wanted to honor her giving spirit by finding a way to support the community. He donated an accessible picnic table to Franchot Park in her honor so individuals using wheelchairs could comfortably sit and gather with others. At a time when accessibility features like that were far less common, the experience helped shape J.D.’s understanding of inclusion and belonging. Growing up around someone with Down syndrome also influenced his perspective, and his time at Intandem has further reinforced for him that people with disabilities want the same things everyone does: connection, respect, opportunity, and community.
Outside of the meaningful work itself, J.D. says it is the everyday interactions that make the biggest difference. Whether sharing laughs with coworkers or joking with the people served by Intandem about his loyalty to the Kansas City Chiefs in Bills country, he says those moments brighten his day and make him grateful to be part of the Intandem team.
