The Creative Arts Program – Copy

Offered at all three Day Habilitation locations, tandem’s Creative Arts program provides all participants with opportunities to explore the world of art through sight, touch, and sound. With vastly experienced personnel, all creative arts projects and activities are research based and designed specifically to meet the capabilities of all participants while helping them to realize their full potential. Such projects include but are not limited to small-group structured classes, performance troupes, and music and movement celebrations. Creative Arts participants are not only able to identify and pursue their artistic interests and talents, but they also benefit from exploring a variety of sensory stimulation as they experiment with clay, glass, paint, and mixed media crafts. Opportunities to sing, dance, and perform for others encourages participants to express their emotions and engage socially, in addition to the overall sense of joy and accomplishment that comes with such activities.

Funded heavily by grants, scholarships, and donations, the Creative Arts program strives to enrich         tandem’s artists by bringing local artists and performers in house, as well showcasing their work in public art galleries, local art festivals, and live stage performances out in the community. With the help and encouragement from our Creative Arts providers, many of  tandem’s artists have gone on to win statewide art competitions and even sell some of their art work to the public.

MEET THE MAKERS

Jennifer Mysliwy, Creative Arts Coordinator

Jennifer Mysliwy, tandem’s Creative Arts Program Coordinator, comes to tandem with a Master’s degree in Education and a Bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts and Performance. Her intimate knowledge in both area allows her to curate and modify projects across all three locations; bringing out even the most hidden talents of every one of our participants. With her structured group classes and hands-on teaching methods, Jennifer ensures that all participants are involved in the creative process, from working with clay to singing on stage. When she is not attending seminars and continuing education courses, Jennifer is busy networking with local and upcoming artists/performers to provide the most enriching experience possible, both in and out of the building.

Lisa O’Neil, Creative Arts Instructor

Lisa O’Neil is an independent artist who currently works as the Creative Arts Instructor for the Allegany Day habilitation Program. She found her passion for art in the 6th grade where she received a certificate of excellence in art and quickly discovered it was something that made her happy. Over the years, Lisa has assisted with art shows, and participated in the Art Honor Society where she provided help to the Bradford PA Kiwanis Kapers, creating backdrops for plays and murals for local nursing homes. Lisa puts her passion and knowledge to use as she teaches structured classes to program participants. Lisa prides herself on learning the history and background of each art project, allowing everyone to enjoy the full creative experience and identify what art truly means to them.
